Dissertation title: "Sisters of the North: Kinship, Religion, and Memory and the Women of Catholic Yorkshire, 1553-1642"
Advisor: Dr. Lawrence R. Poos

Focusing on female expression and experience of religious non-conformity and resistance, my dissertation examines the intersecting religious, legal and geographic spaces inhabited and shaped by English Catholic women navigating the dynamic yet turbulent world of early modern Europe. By tracing and integrating the activity and networks of several groups of women in some way connected to Yorkshire, effectively connecting two to three generations of northern English Catholics spread of over several countries, the study aims to deepen our understanding of how female religious non-conformists emerged from–as well as transformed–the networks of the English Catholic diaspora during and after the Reformation.

Research interests: Social historian with a background in law and cultural heritage/archival work whose research focuses on religion, law, and society in late medieval/early modern Britain, specifically on forms of political and religious resistance to state coercion. Of particular interest is the influence of women and their familial and social networks on the shaping of collective memory and identity during and after the English Reformation.
